Is the Crouching Tiger
I came up with this idea (and one other, of vines running through the page, with people climbing them with various items), but this one was the obvious winner. They called me for this on a Friday afternoon, and needed sketches within the hour. It had to contain seven charts, and fit into the freakiest space EVER! I love a challenge Part of the challenge of this was making the machine reflect the charts: durable goods sales, consumer confidence, etc. I'm a stickler for machines that 'hang together', and reward careful scrutiny. I was so proud when this came out as a full-pager in the WSJ. Make sure you click the page link to see the whole thing, it was a tour-de-force of mechanical frivolity!
